January is so crazy

January is so crazy

Haven’t gotten much time to relax once again the past few days. Tuesday and Thursday were my oldest two kids birthdays, and then yesterday we had a combined birthday party for them, and their cousin, who’s birthday was Friday. It was nice. Aside from my brother and his fiance and their son and my parents it was just my family. No one wanted to travel after the nasty snow we had yesterday. And, of course it’s snowing like crazy again today.

I made the kids a “camo” cake. I wish I remembered to take a picture of the finished product, but of course I never do…

Camouflage Cake!

This is the best I got – the finished cake had bright purple icing with purple, black, green and white sprinkles and “Happy Birthday” written in chocolate icing:

Happy birthday to the kids!

Happy birthday to the kids!

Still have my husband’s birthday on the 29th. It’s been a month packed with birthdays!

Got a call yesterday for working on a new site for someone. It should be a fairly quick project- one page, basic informational site, no complicated design elements. Gonna try to set up a demo site this afternoon or evening. Also got two other projects I need to wrap up. Well, one to wrap- one to start. But the one I need to start on is also minimal work, so I’m not very worried. Hopefully I can get all the tasks for that project wrapped up by tomorrow evening.

In other news I finally got around to going to the craft stored in the next big town over. I had wanted to go becaue I saw rumors on the forums that places like A.C. Moore and Michaels were discontinuing their in-store cross stitch sections. Well – that doesn’t seem to be the case near me. Both stores had extremely large sections, packed full of cross stitch kits and other accessories – and none was discounted. So it doesn’t look like cross stitch is going anywhere around these parts đŸ˜€

merlin-clownAlso hit up JoAnn’s and got three kits – they always seems to have the same exact kits, always for 50% off. I bought one hideous kit called “Merlin Clown” – which no, I do not intend to do as is. If I ever get to that kit I want to change the whole hair/facial area. So basically keep it merlin, loose the clown. I’d change the hair to white/gray and redo the whole face. I have no idea what possessed me to buy it, but I did love the colors and everything else aside from the clown.

I’m so glad I got out though, I got to get my floss for a new Stitch Along I found through a youtube video of another cross-stitcher. It’s called 2014 AAN Halloween Town Mystery SAL. You get a part of the final pattern on the 10th of each month. I can’t wait to start. I got all my floss, and am just waiting for my fabric to arrive. I ordered three fabrics from Steph’s Fabbys and two from Picture this Plus. Not sure which I am going to go with – I won’t be able to make my final decision until I have them in my hands, but at this point it’s a toss up between PTP’s “Fog” and Steph’s Fabbys “Haunting”. I got Fog in a 32 count lugana and Haunting in 28ct lugana. Not sure how this is going to go for me as I’ve never stitch on anything else but aida! I can’t wait to give it a go. I’ve got some white 32ct to test out my skills on today/tomorrow to see how it goes.

As for my turtle trot, I’ve started the Charlie Brown kit I had started years and years ago. Got pretty far:

Starting:

UFO - Snoopy and Charlie Brown - Cross Stitch

UFO – Snoopy and Charlie Brown

Midweek:

Charlie Brown Cross Stitch Progress

My midweek progress

As of last night:

Charlie Brown Cross Stitch Progress

My progress as of last night. White on white. OH BOY!

Anyway, I guess I’m off to work on some websites, and later on hopefully get snoopy and part of mr. Charlie Brown finished!
